Officially, the business started on January 1 of this year, 2009 and it has been a whirlwind since! But before that, here’s how we got to the start of 3 Monkeys…

Parker and I were in Hot Springs in early November last year helping his mother during a holiday show. She has a similar business to this one called JoJo’s Initial Designs. So after seeing the action in person, Parker and I decided on the way home in the car that we would start a similar business and within a week, we had made an investment in a monogram machine and started purchasing inventory and supplies!

Over the next couple of weeks, we tossed around ideas on a name and wanted to use the kids as motivation for the business. We didn’t like anything using DKA or any combo of initials. And then when we asked the kids if they wanted something (I don’t even remember what it was), Daniel and Kennedy started hollering like a monkey and 3 Monkeys was born!

We filed papers in December and registered for a Sales Tax ID and voila, January 1 was opening day for the business! Since then, we’ve participated in the Southaven Flea Market, Spring Market at the Agricenter in Memphis by MidSouth Media Group, and the Hernando A-Fair by the Hernando Optimist Club. We are scheduled or plan to attend later this year Misletoe Merchants at the Agricenter in Memphis by MidSouth Media Group, Subsidium Carrousel of Shops, and Under the Christmas Tree in Huntsville, Alabama.
